About me
Software architect and engineer in Helsinki, building dependable web services and thoughtful digital products.
I’m Dean Clatworthy, a software architect and engineer based in Helsinki, Finland. I grew up in England and studied Computer Science, but most of what I know has come from the years spent designing, shipping and looking after real systems.
I’ve been building for the web for more than two decades. My work stretches from cloud architecture and back-end services to the details of a front-end experience. I’m happiest when I can make a complicated problem feel calm: understanding what truly needs to be built, choosing sensible technology and leaving behind something that another person can confidently maintain.
That long view matters to me. Good software isn’t only correct on launch day; it should remain understandable, adaptable and useful as the people and business around it change. I care about clear decisions, honest trade-offs and systems that earn trust quietly.
Finland has been home for many years. The landscape, the seasons and the straightforward way of approaching problems have all found their way into how I think and work. Away from client projects, I write about technology, society and what it means to keep building as our profession changes.
